Cookie Policy
This page explains what cookies are, which ones Kitsune Casino uses, why each one exists, and how UK players can control them. It is written to satisfy the UK's Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and the UK GDPR — but more importantly, it is written so you can actually understand what is being placed on your device and decide whether you want it there.
1. What cookies actually are
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your device when you visit. It does not run programs, does not carry viruses, and cannot read other files on your computer. What it can do is remember a small piece of information — that you are logged in, that you prefer English, that you have already dismissed a banner — so you do not have to repeat yourself on every page.
Kitsune also uses related technologies that behave like cookies but are technically distinct: local storage (which holds data in your browser rather than sending it back to the server on every request) and pixels (tiny images used for tracking). Where this policy says "cookies," it covers these technologies too, because the privacy implications are the same.
There are two broad lifetimes to be aware of. Session cookies are deleted the moment you close your browser. Persistent cookies remain on your device for a set period — anything from a few hours to a couple of years — and are used to recognise you when you return.
2. The four categories we use
Kitsune groups its cookies into four categories. Two are strictly necessary and cannot be switched off without breaking the site. Two are optional and only set with your consent.
Under UK PECR, essential cookies do not require consent — they are set on the basis of being strictly necessary to deliver a service you have requested. Analytics, functional and marketing cookies do require your consent, and we will not set them until you have given it.
Declining optional cookies does not restrict your access to any game, bonus or feature. It only means the site will be slightly less personalised and we will have less data to work with when improving it.
3. Full cookie reference
The table below lists the specific cookies Kitsune uses, what each one does, and how long it stays on your device. This list is reviewed quarterly and updated whenever a new tool is added.
Cookie names are prefixed with ks_ so they are easy to identify if you inspect your browser's storage. Any cookie not carrying that prefix is almost certainly set by a third party — see the next section.
4. Third-party cookies
Some of the tools Kitsune relies on are operated by external companies, and those companies may set their own cookies when you use our site. We do not control those cookies directly, though we do choose which partners we work with and require them to comply with UK privacy law.
The main categories of third-party cookies you may encounter are:
- Analytics providers — used to measure how the site is being used in aggregate. Data is anonymised before it reaches us.
- Payment processors — set during deposit or withdrawal flows to prevent fraud and confirm transaction integrity. These are strictly necessary for the transaction to complete.
- Live dealer and game providers — may set temporary cookies while a game is loading or running to maintain the game state.
- Marketing and affiliate platforms — set only with your consent, and only for measuring campaign performance.
Where a third-party cookie is essential to a service you have requested — such as a payment processor's fraud-prevention cookie — it falls under the same PECR exception as our own essential cookies. Everything else is gated behind your consent.
You can review the specific privacy practices of any third party we work with by following the links in the consent manager, or by contacting us directly using the details at the bottom of this page.
5. Managing your cookie preferences
You have two layers of control: the site-level consent manager, and your own browser settings. Both are legitimate ways to manage cookies, and you can use either or both.
Via the Kitsune consent manager
The consent banner that appears on your first visit lets you accept or reject optional cookies by category. You can change those choices at any time from the "Cookie Settings" link in the site footer — the same link you will find at the bottom of every page. Changes take effect immediately and are remembered for twelve months.
Via your browser
Every major browser lets you view, block and delete cookies. The exact menu path varies, but the settings are always under a "Privacy" or "Cookies" heading. Direct links to the relevant pages:
If you block essential cookies through your browser, Kitsune will not function. You will not be able to log in, complete a deposit, or keep a session open. This is not a design choice — it is how session-based authentication works on any secure website.
Blocking optional cookies through your browser will not affect your ability to play. It will simply mean the site is less personalised, and we will have less information to use when improving it.
6. Our legal basis for using cookies
Two different legal frameworks apply, depending on the cookie in question.
PECR governs whether we are allowed to store information on your device in the first place. Under PECR, non-essential cookies require your prior consent, and consent must be freely given, specific, informed and unambiguous. This is why the consent banner does not use pre-ticked boxes, does not treat scrolling as consent, and does not make access to the site conditional on accepting anything optional.
UK GDPR governs what we do with the data once it has been collected. For essential cookies, our legal basis is performance of a contract — you have asked to use the casino, and these cookies are necessary to deliver it. For analytics, functional and marketing cookies, the legal basis is consent, which you may withdraw at any time.
Withdrawing consent is not retrospective — it does not affect the lawfulness of processing that already happened — but it stops all future optional cookie activity from the moment you change your settings.
7. How long cookies stay on your device
Retention periods are listed individually in the reference table above. As a general rule:
- Session cookies clear automatically when you close your browser and cannot be extended.
- Essential persistent cookies last between 30 days and 12 months, depending on their function. The session token lasts 30 days so you are not forced to log in constantly; the age verification and consent records last 12 months so you are not asked repeatedly.
- Analytics cookies last up to 13 months, which is the maximum recommended under UK ICO guidance.
- Marketing cookies last 60 to 90 days, after which the attribution data is no longer useful to us or to our partners.
You can delete any or all of these at any time through your browser. Doing so will not close your account or affect your balance — it will only remove the local data stored on that device.
8. Changes to this policy
Cookie practices change as tools are added, providers are swapped, and regulations are updated. When any of those things happen, this page is revised and the "Last updated" date at the top is changed accordingly.
Material changes — anything that alters which categories of cookie are used or how consent is collected — will be signalled through the consent banner on your next visit, so you will be asked to review your preferences again. Minor changes, such as the addition of a new analytics cookie within an existing category, will simply be reflected in the reference table.
We keep an archive of previous versions of this policy. If you would like a copy of an earlier version, contact us using the details below.
